A GP surgery has an important role in the community and we want to work in partnership with and for the benefit of the local population.
We would like to set up a Patient Participation Group to help us with key ‘strategic’ developments.
It is an opportunity to make a difference to what happens in your surgery. Being part of a PPG will mean you will be consulted about arrangements in primary healthcare, and you will have a forum to suggest positive ideas and voice concerns.
It will give you a better understanding and knowledge of the practice and the staff, and will improve communication between staff and patients.
Most importantly you will be able to make sure that the patient view is represented.
What can be discussed
Ideally that is decided by the group. Common themes could include:
the waiting room
the telephone and appointment systems
the new building
the availability of local services
the development of self-help projects to meet the needs of fellow patients, such as befriending and bereavement support.
After each meeting, the minutes would be sent to all members and made available on the website, along with the date of the next meeting and a deadline for submission of agenda items for the next meeting. Prior to each meeting an agenda will be circulated to all members.
The group is not involved in raising funds for the practice. It is also not a forum to discuss individual complaints.
